The Conservative Party announced Phil Eckersley as their candidate. What are he and the Conservatives planning for Greater Manchester? We take a look at the manifesto.

We aim to update this page when new manifesto points come to our attention.

High Street regeneration

“I’m backing our high streets and businesses.” (Candidate Facebook 9 July)

“Back every borough with a fairer deal – because Greater Manchester is much bigger than the city centre alone. “ (MEN Hustings)

Housing

“I’ll stand up for our Green Belt and valued green spaces. We do need more homes, but they should be built on brownfield sites first — not by concreting over the countryside that local families enjoy.“ Posted on the candidate’s Facebook page on 10 July.

“Build affordable homes on brownfield sites, not valued green spaces “

Migration

“As Mayor of Greater Manchester, I’ll push for a proper system, proper border control, and proper removals for those with no right to be here. “

Transport

“A fair deal for every borough means extending Metrolink to Stockport, Bolton and Wigan and fixing bus routes that do not turn up or do not go where people need them. “ according to a Facebook post by the candidate

Policing and public safety

Deliver safer streets, better policing and a better quality of life across Greater Manchester.

Social care or SEND

How will any changes or plans be financed?

No statements, but the candidate did post this: “As Mayor, I will get a grip on GM’s finances, open the books, publish the receipts and make sure residents can see where their money is going”
