Reactions to Earth’s Follies: Week 8. Seriously Earth what are you thinking?!

Mars gives you tariffs! Earth’s follies are keeping Martians entertained, and slightly worried as well

Greetings once again, Earthlings! More Earth’s Follies going on. Your planet continues to be an endless source of entertainment, confusion, and – frankly – concern. Let’s dive into another week of Earth’s most baffling moments.

Kid Rock’s White House cosplay

In a moment that will surely go down in history as exactly what we expect from 21st-century Earth, Kid Rock sauntered into the White House looking like a Dollar Store bargain bin version of a ‘70s Vegas act. That outfit – a straw hat, a bedazzled tracksuit  that looked like it had lost a bar fight with a glitter gun, and sunglasses that screamed, “I think I’m cool, but I’m really not” – left me questioning whether this was a serious political event or an audition for a reality show that even Mars would reject. At one point I half expected them to fire him out of a cannon.

His presence, of course, was just another reminder that politics and performance art are now indistinguishable on your planet. Is he a musician? A political strategist? A failed carnival magician? No one really knows anymore, and perhaps that’s the point. The man who once sang about being drunk in the morning is now left watching executive orders being signed. That’s democracy, Earth-style!

Elon’s cheesehead debacle

Elon, the man who has long dreamed of conquering space but can’t seem to maintain basic human interactions, made yet another terrestrial blunder this week in Wisconsin. With a giant cheese wedge strapped to his head like an AI-generated political meme, he attempted to bribe voters into supporting a MAGA judge. And, in a shocking twist that no one could have predicted (except literally everyone paying attention), he lost spectacularly.

There’s something poetic about a man who spent years branding himself as a genius being reduced to a failed, cheese-wearing, political lackey. It turns out that having billions doesn’t automatically make you persuasive – or likable. The people of Wisconsin were not impressed, and the MAGA judge Elon threw his weight behind went down faster than Twitter’s credibility under his ownership.

Cory Booker’s 25-Hour epic speech

In an era where most politicians can’t finish a sentence without contradicting themselves, Cory Booker stood up – literally – and spoke truth to power for over 25 hours. In an impassioned Senate floor speech that shattered the previous record (once held by an actual racist, because of course it was), he delivered a takedown of Trump’s government that will be studied by historians, or at least heavily memed by political nerds.

The sheer endurance required to stand for that long, let alone while making an eloquent case for democracy, is something even I have to respect. You Earthlings might be a mess, but occasionally one of you reminds me why some of you are worth saving. Maybe.

Tariff madness: now featuring penguins

Speaking of messes, Trump continues to slap tariffs on anything that moves – and apparently, even things that don’t. This week, he decided to impose tariffs on islands inhabited exclusively by penguins, because nothing screams “strong economic policy” like punishing seabirds for their failure to import American goods. And we all know that nothing deters economic freeloaders like an angry group of flightless birds.

The penguins are quite upset as they were wearing their best penguin suits for the satellite picture op, and said ‘cheese’ when the camera flashed. We commiserate.

In response, Mars has decided to impose a 666% tariff on all SpaceX rockets entering Martian airspace. If Earth can make up economic policies on the fly, so can we. Congratulations, Elon, you now owe us more money than you’re worth.

Oh, and Trump now wants to tariff illegal smuggled drugs – which, by definition, don’t exactly go through customs.

In one of the most mind-blowingly ignorant statements of the week, Trump declared that he’s going to start tariffing smuggled illegal drugs. Yes, you read that correctly. The man who doesn’t understand how tariffs work also doesn’t understand how smuggling works.

Perhaps next he’ll demand that ghosts pay property taxes or that counterfeit money be charged a luxury tax. It’s a bold new frontier in economic incompetence! Someone should explain to him how smuggling works. On second thought, let’s not – it’s more fun watching him flail.

Musk’s possible imminent departure

A senior White House official has hinted that Elon might be stepping down from his government role. It seems that even the richest man in the world is discovering that backing an authoritarian has financial consequences. Either that, or Trump has grown tired of Elon’s need for constant attention and has handed babysitting duties to someone else.

Frankly, it’s surprising Elon lasted this long. He bet his reputation on MAGA politics, and now he’s learning that when you lie down with grifters, you wake up broke. Let’s see how long he clings to whatever remains of his public image before it all crumbles. Given his flair for drama, and his stock going down like the Titanic I wouldn’t be surprised if, in a desperate attempt to cling on to his bromance, he channeled his inner Rose and asked Donny to, “Draw me like one of your French girls.”

Mike Waltz: Gmail enthusiast

Just when you thought national security couldn’t be handled any worse, we learned that Representative Mike Waltz has been using Gmail for official government business. Because, you know, after the whole Signal leaks disaster, why not downgrade from “mildly unsecure chats” to “basically public” email protocols?

And it gets worse – his team reportedly has at least 20 separate Signal group chats dedicated to discussing global crises. Because nothing says competence like spreading sensitive national security discussions across unsecured chat rooms like a group of high schoolers planning a prom afterparty.

At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if he starts forwarding classified documents to his personal Hotmail account while asking Nigerian princes for financial advice. The level of carelessness is almost impressive in its audacity.

Badenoch’s bold bet on Trump

In a move that has baffled even Martians, Kemi Badenoch has decided to throw her political future into the abyss by backing Donald Tariff and claiming that free speech in the UK is at risk. Apparently, the best way to protect democracy and free speech is by supporting a man who has actively tried to dismantle both.

Backing Trump is one sure way to ensure your political aspirations don’t make it past the gate. It’s like investing in a parachute after you’ve already jumped out of the plane. But hey, Earth politics has never been known for its rational decision-making.

Final thoughts from Mars

Earthlings, your antics never fail to amaze me. You’ve got a failing billionaire dressing like a cartoon character, a washed-up rocker looking like Elvis if you ordered him from Temu, tariffs on penguins, and politicians breaking records for both good and laughably bad reasons.

I can’t decide if I should be horrified or entertained, but one thing is clear: If you keep this up, you might just convince Mars to close its interstellar border permanently. Until next week, try not to implode.

The latest Mars drinking song, to the tune of that famous song of one of your famous hipswinging singer and actor

Tariffs
Never know how much he’ll tax you
Never know how much he’ll dare
Even penguins get his tariffs
Though they’ve no trade and they just don’t care
He gives them tariffs
On an island, tariffs on the frozen ground
Tariffs! On the fish there, tariffs though no deals are found
Sun lights up the ice shelf
Moon shines on the snow
Penguins waddle, baffled by it
Why they’re taxed, they will never know
He gives them tariffs
On an island, tariffs on the frozen ground
Tariffs! On the fish there, tariffs though no deals are found
Everybody’s got a tax bill
That is something we all know
Penguins never saw it coming
Trade wars started here we go
Donny T gave them tariffs
Canada said, "Elbows Up!"
Now Trump’s played his trade agenda
Even steel’s gonna cost more bucks
He gives them tariffs
On their lumber, tariffs on their dairy too
Tariffs! On their steel now, tariffs has he thought this through?

Elon Musk and Captain Bonespurs
Have a mad love affair
Trump could slap a tax on Teslas
Elon he’d say, “I don’t care”
He gives us tariffs
On our allies, tariffs with no real plan
Tariffs! On the ice caps, penguins just don’t understand
Now you’ve listened to my story
Here’s the point that I have made
Even birds get taxed by tariffs
If they’re floating or on parade
He gives them tariffs
On an island, tariffs on the frozen ground
Tariffs! On the fish there, tariffs though no deals are found
What a costly way to burn
What a costly way to burn
What a costly way to burn
What a costly way to burn
