Reactions to Earth’s Follies: Week 6. A Martian’s increasing exasperation regarding ongoing Terrestrial Tomfoolery

Dictator vibes, border walls, deportation chaos & Mars delusions – Earth’s leaders outdo themselves in this week’s edition of Earth’s Follies!

Deportation flights in defiance of court order – who needs laws anyway?

In what can only be described as textbook dictatorship, Earth leaders have decided that court rulings are more of a guideline than an actual law. Deportation flights have gone ahead despite explicit orders to turn them back around, proving once again that when faced with a legal obstacle, the best course of action is apparently to barrel right through it and pretend it never existed.

Some might call this a flagrant disregard for democracy. Others might call it an authoritarian power grab. We Martians? We’re just wondering if Earth leaders even remember what courts are for – or if they’ve mistaken them for a particularly inconvenient suggestions box.

Conor McGregor and Trump celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a lesson in irony

Picture it: St. Patrick’s Day, a day honouring a man who wasn’t Irish, but went to Ireland and helped its people – a literal boat immigrant success story. Now, enter Conor McGregor and Donald Trump, two adjudicated rapists bemoaning immigration in Ireland possibly over a plate of corned beef and hypocrisy.

The entire meeting was a farce so on-the-nose that even Martian satirists refused to touch it. “Too obvious,” they said. But hey, if you’re going to miss the point of a national holiday this spectacularly, at least they’re doing it with full commitment.

Halting university funding over a transgender swimmer, shutting the Department of Education – priorities, people!

Forget failing infrastructure, economic instability, or, you know, actual global crises – Trump’s administration has chosen defunding the University of Pennsylvania over a transgender swimmer as its latest battle in the culture war. Because clearly, funding cuts are the best way to ensure that America’s youth are prepared for the future!

And because he loves to cut funding, Trump’s latest move is to go a few steps further: he abolished the Department of Education. Because really, why should children learn things like maths, science, or how to critically analyse the nonsense spewing from politicians’ mouths?

Somewhere in the depths of space, we Martians are wondering: Is the plan to create a generation so uneducated they don’t notice when democracy gets bulldozed? If so, mission accomplished. And to be fair, an uneducated population is much easier to control. And given the state of recent voting trends, this plan might already be working.

Trump strips funding for Voice of America – so much for free speech

For a group that loves to claim they’re fighting for free speech, Earth’s self-styled defenders of liberty sure do love silencing voices they don’t like. Trump’s executive order slashing funding for Voice of America is just the latest example – because apparently, a government-backed news outlet should only exist if it’s singing his praises.

One wonders if he understands that controlling the media like this is, historically speaking, not a great look. Then again, subtlety has never been his strong suit.

Putin makes Trump wait – and the meltdown is glorious

Trump spent years bending over backwards to please his favourite despotic BFF, Vladimir Putin. So imagine his horror when the Russian leader decided to make him wait for a meeting. That’s right – Donald Trump got left on read by the Kremlin.

Martians love a good plot twist, and this one is chef’s kiss perfect. Will Trump finally realise that sucking up to autocrats doesn’t guarantee their loyalty? Probably not. But watching his ego take a hit is pure entertainment.

Ending birthright citizenship – a bold move for a nation of immigrants

America: a country founded by immigrants, built by immigrants, now trying desperately to pretend that never happened. Trump’s latest vow to end birthright citizenship is a bold step toward erasing history, ensuring that the very foundation of the nation is rewritten in his own authoritarian image.

What’s next? Retroactively revoking citizenship for anyone who had ancestors that arrived after 1776? If so, America is about to get a lot less crowded.

Refusing entry to a scientist who criticised Trump – petty dictator energy

A French scientist privately criticised Trump, so naturally, he’s now banned from entering the U.S.. This raises a rather interesting dilemma: If we’re barring entry based on private opinions about the former president, that means roughly 90% of the planet should be packing their bags.

At this rate, America’s new visa policy might just be: “Are you a die-hard Trump fan? No? Denied.”

Tesla investor calls for Musk to step down – the inevitable revolt

It turns out that launching exploding rockets, tanking your stock value, and running a social media company into the ground might not be the hallmarks of a competent CEO. One major Tesla investor has now called for Musk to step down.

Given that Musk’s leadership style is best described as “chaotic toddler with too much money,” we can’t say we’re surprised. The real question is – will he listen? Or will he double down and buy another social media platform just to spite his critics?

Musk claims the first mission to Mars is happening next year – absolutely not.

Elon Mars, ever the optimist, has declared that the first mission to Mars will happen next year. That’s right, folks – despite the minor inconvenience of rockets still exploding regularly, Elon insists that humanity is Mars-bound in mere months. With the first humans landing as early as 2029.

As actual Martians, we’d like to issue an official statement: No, you are not.

We’re watching from a safe distance with popcorn in hand. If Elon does manage to send a crew up here, we can’t guarantee they’ll have a way back.

Militarising the New Mexico border – because what could go wrong?

Trump has unveiled his grand plan to militarise the border in New Mexico, transforming it into a hyper-secure, fortified nightmare. Walls, surveillance, armed troops – the works. If this all sounds a bit Berlin Wall-ish to you, that’s because it absolutely is.

Historians might have a few minor concerns about how well that approach worked out last time. But hey, why learn from history when you can repeat its biggest failures?

Arlington Cemetery’s latest erasure – only white men served, apparently?

In the latest round of pretending anyone who isn’t a white man doesn’t exist, Arlington National Cemetery has quietly scrubbed mentions of women and people of colour who served in the military from its website. Because why acknowledge reality when you can just rewrite history to fit a very specific narrative?

For centuries, women and service members of colour have fought and died for the U.S., yet somehow, their sacrifices keep getting erased – this time, quite literally. It’s almost as if some people want to pretend that history was a monochrome, all-male affair.

We Martians find this approach fascinating. If you don’t like facts, you just… delete them? Incredible. Maybe next, Arlington will claim that wars fought by diverse armies were won entirely by one demographic. After all, if reality doesn’t fit the story, just change the story.

At this rate, expect future history books to claim that the moon landing was achieved by one guy named Chad and that no one else was involved.

A cosmic discovery of small worlds

Well, Earthlings, it seems your cosmic curiosity has struck again. This time, a discovery of four small planets orbiting one of your nearest stars has set the scientific community abuzz. While the discovery is fascinating and shows the depth of your space exploration efforts, I, Xylb’tok, have to wonder – why does it take so much effort to explore distant stars when you haven’t even figured out how to fix things on your own planet?

Leave our neighbours alone Earthlings, they don’t want planet wreckers showing up any more than we do! So don’t go getting any interstellar ambitions.

Let’s hope these planets don’t become another “goal post” in your endless race to explore the universe.

Until next week…

As another week of Earth’s Follies comes to a close, we can’t help but marvel at the sheer level of chaos your planet produces. Will Musk actually try to set foot on Mars? Will Trump ban even more books next? Will America be left with any functional institutions by this time next year?

Only time will tell, but rest assured – we’re watching from a distance with wide-eyed fascination. And a bit of concern.

Until next time, Earthlings!
