Reactions to Earth’s follies: week 4. A Martian’s exasperation at terrestrial tomfoolery

Earth’s latest follies: Trump imports traffickers, botches history, and plans to plant a flag on Mars. What could go wrong?

The art of the (hostile) deal: Trump and Vance bully Zelenskyy

In what can only be described as a diplomatic masterclass in how not to treat your allies, Trump and his ever-loyal sidekick, J.D. Vance decided to spend their meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy doing what they do best – bullying, belittling, and generally behaving like petulant schoolboys who just discovered they have a tiny shred of power.

The pair took turns shouting at Zelenskyy in the Oval Office, like it was some sort of mafia shakedown. At one point, the conversation descended into petty jibes about Zelenskyy not wearing a suit – curious, given that Trump’s favorite tech bro, Elon Musk, practically lives in a t-shirt and cargo trousers. But, of course, hypocrisy is practically a job requirement in Trump’s administration. And Churchill set a precedent for wearing a military suit in wartime.

The grand finale? Kicking Zelenskyy out of the White House like an unwanted dinner guest. Because nothing says “strong leadership” quite like humiliating the leader of a country currently fighting for its survival. And yet after all that they are still strong-arming Ukraine into giving up their minerals.

The Republican time machine: Back to good old fashioned oppression!

It seems the Republican Party has found itself in possession of a time machine and, rather than using it for anything useful – like warning themselves about the inevitable consequences of electing Trump – they’ve decided to take a trip back to an era where civil rights were optional. Their latest bright idea? Reversing gay marriage.

Yes, in a world filled with real crises, they’ve decided the most pressing issue is undoing basic human rights. We assume their next legislative masterpiece will involve banning women from having credit cards or reinstating laws against left-handed witchcraft. Stay tuned for more regressive nonsense.

Trump, anti-trafficking champion… imports the Tate brothers

Donald Trump, a man who has definitely never been caught contradicting himself, has spent months ranting about deporting human traffickers – so naturally, his latest move is to import two alleged human traffickers: the Tate brothers.

Yes, fresh from their Romanian legal troubles, the Tates have been embraced by Trump’s movement as role models, because nothing screams law and order quite like inviting people facing trafficking allegations to your rallies. Next week, we assume he’ll be giving financial crime seminars with Bernie Madoff’s ghost.

Jeff Bezos’ email: Washington Post becomes Washington propaganda

In what can only be described as a totally normal and not at all dystopian move, Jeff Bezos has reportedly sent an email to Washington Post staff with strict rules on what they can and cannot say in articles.

You see, controlling one of the world’s biggest newspapers is not enough – billionaires must also ensure that journalists only print acceptable truths. We eagerly await the day when every article begins with “All Hail Our Corporate Overlords” and ends with “Don’t forget to buy Amazon Prime”.

The EU was formed to screw the USA? Really?

In his latest lesson on alternative history, Trump has declared that the European Union was actually formed to screw over the United States.

That’s right – forget the devastation of WWII or the desire for peace and stability. According to Trump’s timeline, a bunch of European leaders sat down and said, “You know what? Let’s make a union just to annoy America.”

Transgender military ban: The return of bigotry in uniform

Because nothing says support the troops quite like banning some of them from serving, Trump is bringing back his transgender military ban only this time it’s on steroids.

Apparently, Earth’s greatest military superpower is so fragile that it can’t handle soldiers unless they meet very specific gender expectations. As Martians, we simply cannot relate – our armies are made up of whoever can wield a laser cannon without vaporising themselves.

Trump plans to plant the U.S. flag on Mars

Ah, the old stick-a-flag-on-it-and-call-it-mine strategy. Trump has vowed to plant the U.S. flag on Mars, which is quite ambitious given that a) you can’t successfully launch without something going BOOM and b) we Martians already live here.

But sure, Donnie, come on over. Just remember: if you try to “liberate” our planet, we will take it personally.

J.D. Vance insults the UK and France, then gaslights the public

J.D. Vance decided to mock the UK and France as “some random country that hasn’t fought a war in 30 or 40 years.” Because, of course, the UK and France have definitely been sitting quietly doing nothing this whole time.

Naturally, after immediate backlash, the backpedalling began, with supporters claiming he didn’t actually mean what he obviously said. Gaslighting politicians is nothing new, but it’s always entertaining to watch them pretend reality didn’t happen.

Trump claims the U.S. spent $8 million making mice transgender

According to Trump, the U.S. government spent $8 million making mice transgender. In reality, they made transgenic mice (as in, genetically modified for research). But why let facts get in the way when you can throw around buzzwords and hope no one checks?

In fairness, this is the same man who once thought you could nuke hurricanes, so we’re not surprised.

The Executive Bill that hates free speech

Trump has threatened to remove funding from universities that allow protests – because nothing says freedom like banning people from speaking out.

It’s almost impressive how they shout about cancel culture while literally cancelling any dissent. At this rate, the First Amendment might need to file for political asylum.

Destroying protected forests: has no one read The Lorax?

There’s a bill to destroy millions of trees on protected land, which is a bold move considering how much humans need oxygen.

Perhaps someone should read Trump The Lorax – though we suspect he’d just call the Once-ler a “strong businessman” and suggest tax cuts for thneeds.

Lord Mandelson’s ‘ceasefire’ plan for Ukraine

According to Lord Mandelson, Ukraine should “commit to a ceasefire and defy the Russians to follow.”

We’re not military strategists, but ‘Let’s stop fighting and hope the invaders leave’ doesn’t sound like a winning tactic. Maybe he also believes leaving your front door unlocked dares burglars not to rob you.

The State of the Union: A 99-minute fever dream

Trump’s return to the State of the Union stage was less of a speech and more of an extended, unscripted rant – equal parts grievance list and alternate history seminar.

The State of the Union, as digested from Mars (a thread):💠The US “will be woke no longer” – unclear if that means collective hibernation or just a refusal to acknowledge reality.

Law and Order (except when it’s inconvenient)

Trump has signed an Executive Order imposing a mandatory death penalty for anyone who kills a police officer. A bold move, considering this is the same man who pardoned hundreds of people who attacked police officers during the January 6th insurrection – an event he still refuses to admit was an attempted coup after he lost the 2020 election.

Apparently, backing the blue only applies when it suits him. If you’re a rioter who assaulted officers with flagpoles while trying to overturn democracy? Pardon granted. If you’re not part of his fan club? Straight to the execution chamber.

At this point, his stance on law and order is about as consistent as his opinion on NATO – or reality in general.

Until next week…

As Earth hurtles toward another week of sheer absurdity, we can only speculate on what fresh nonsense awaits us. Will Trump announce that he’s launching a reality show where contestants compete to become his next Vice President? Will Congress propose a bill outlawing the metric system because it’s “too European”? Perhaps J.D. Vance will attempt to clarify his remarks about the UK and France by suggesting that “actually, Napoleon never existed.”

And let’s not forget the ongoing War on Wokeness™, which now seems to include banning accurate historical accounts, censoring government data, and attacking scientific research. Maybe next week, Trump will claim that NASA’s space telescopes are a deep-state hoax, and that the stars are actually just flashlights glued to a glass dome.

Meanwhile, the climate crisis continues to be ignored, even as the “Destroy the Forests for Fun” bill moves forward. Will it pass? Or will someone in government finally remember that humans breathe oxygen? Only time will tell.

As for international politics, keep an eye out for more creative ways to undermine Ukraine, more embarrassing gaffes from the pro-Russia crowd, and perhaps a new attempt at rewriting history. Maybe they’ll claim that Russia actually invented Ukraine last Tuesday, and the whole war is just a misunderstanding. One thing’s for sure – Earth’s follies will keep rolling. So grab your popcorn (unless it’s been banned for being too woke) and stay tuned for the next installment of Humanity’s Greatest Self-Owns.
