Greetings concerned citizens of Earth! Due to Elon Mars’ insistence on meddling with our planet, we’ve taken it upon ourselves to deep dive into all things Earth politics and impart our take on what in the moons is going on down there. Welcome to the first edition of Reactions to Earth’s Follies, where we take a step back from our own dignified chaos and peer into the swirling black hole of nonsense that is US politics. So, strap in, adjust your antennae, and let’s dive in.

We begin with geography, or as Earthlings call It, ‘Making things up’

In a move that can only be described as an expensive and unnecessary tantrum, Earth’s newly re-elected President Donald Trump, a 34-times convicted felon, has taken a brief respite from his many court appearances to suggest renaming Greenland. Not content with its existing name, which, to be fair, is already a lie (it’s mostly ice), Trump has reportedly floated the idea of calling it Red, White, and Blueland. Yes, really. Because nothing screams diplomatic respect like trying to forcibly rebrand another nation’s territory like a real estate project in Atlantic City.

To maintain balance in the universe, the Martian Senate is now considering renaming Earth to Blue, White, Green, and a Horrifying Amount of Orange Land – a tribute to the planet’s varied ecosystem, its deforestation crisis, and the perplexing colour of its most infamous politician. We feel this new name more accurately represents Earth’s current state: a fragile blue marble, suffering from an orange infestation. The measure is currently in committee.

Super Bowl or super spree?

Never one to let taxpayer money go unburned, Trump graced the Super Bowl with his presence this past week, racking up a reported $18 million in expenses for his brief visit. Yes, you read that right: the price of Trump’s appearance at a football game could fund Martian infrastructure improvements for decades. But fear not – his entourage included multiple private jets, an excess of security personnel, and, presumably, an emergency team to ensure his hair remained perfectly sculpted.

What did America get for this staggering cost? Mostly a series of photo ops, some awkward handshakes, and a few waves to a crowd that was either wildly cheering or aggressively booing, depending on which Earth media source you believe. The truth likely lies in the great human tradition of people simultaneously loving and hating the same thing, a skill Trump has perfected to an art form.

Of course, Trump couldn’t just enjoy the game quietly. No, he had to make it about himself, boasting on his social media platform (the one where people go when they’ve been exiled from mainstream networks) that his reception was the greatest, most beautiful, most incredible welcome anyone has ever received at a sporting event. Martian analysts are still debating whether this was satire or self-delusion.

The Gulf of What Now?

Continuing Earth’s obsession with renaming bodies of water, the Trump regime has renamed the Gulf of Mexico to The Gulf of America. Yes, a body of water that, by all known cartographic principles, is deeply associated with Mexico is now being targeted for rebranding in the name of patriotic correctness. The motivation for this appears to be that Trump, in an effort to solidify his “America First” legacy, would like all geographical entities in the Western Hemisphere to conform to his limited understanding of world politics.

The Martian cartography council has responded with its own counter-proposal: rebranding the Moon as The Orb of Earthly Confusion and renaming the Pacific Ocean The Trump Ego Sea, given its seemingly endless and unpredictable depths.

Elon Mars and the Oval Office showdown

No week in Earth politics would be complete without an intervention from Elon Mars, who continues his tireless efforts to remind everyone that he, too, has opinions. This week, his young son managed to upstage President Trump during a visit to the Oval Office, where the child – reportedly bored by the meeting – told Trump to “shush your mouth”.

RFK Jr.’s Cabinet Appointment: A Family Affair

In the latest plot twist in Earth’s ongoing political drama, President Trump has appointed Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to his cabinet. Yes, you read that right – RFK Jr., a long-time environmental activist and prominent figure in the anti-vaccine movement, is now part of the very administration he once vehemently opposed. This appointment has raised eyebrows across Earth, particularly since the Kennedy family’s political legacy is deeply rooted in progressive ideals, far from Trump’s populist, right-wing agenda.

What is even more puzzling is that RFK Jr. appears to have accepted the position, despite his previous condemnation of the Trump administration. The only conclusion we can draw on Mars is that Earth’s politics are an elaborate game of musical chairs, where everyone has a seat regardless of previous allegiances or ideological purity. Perhaps RFK Jr. sees this as an opportunity to push his environmental agenda from within, or perhaps the lure of power and influence proved irresistible. Either way, it’s clear that Earth’s political norms are becoming increasingly fluid, with logic and consistency in short supply. Martian diplomats are now taking bets on how long this alliance will last before one of them is thrown under the bus.

Eggflation: who could have seen this coming?

Trump, in yet another burst of economic wisdom, has decided that President Joe Biden is solely responsible for the continued high price of eggs. Yes, the billionaire who once ran casinos into bankruptcy is now offering lectures on economic policy. In a rant this week, Trump blamed Biden for the egg prices – as if Biden has a secret stash of eggs he’s refusing to release to the public.

Martian economists remind Earthlings that supply chains, market fluctuations, and basic capitalism are far more responsible for food prices than whoever happens to be sitting in the Oval Office. But then again, logic and Trump have never been close acquaintances.

DEI: the latest scapegoat

In the ongoing war against things conservatives only recently learned about, Trump and his cronies have now set their sights on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, claiming that they are responsible for all of America’s woes. With the usual dramatic flair, Trump declared that DEI is ruining the nation’s institutions, its military, and, presumably, the Super Bowl halftime show.

Martian scholars remain puzzled by Earthlings’ ability to take a concept that promotes fairness and turn it into a conspiracy-laden talking point. It seems that, much like with climate science and basic facts, certain factions of humanity have decided that fairness itself is an existential threat. We will continue to monitor this paradox.

Closing thoughts from the red planet

If this first week of monitoring Earth has taught us anything, it’s that American politics is as bizarre as ever, especially with President Trump, a figure both absurd and profoundly disorienting in his continued ability to sway public opinion despite his deep legal entanglements. The appointment of RFK Jr. adds yet another layer of intrigue to an already convoluted political landscape. Earthlings seem to have an almost limitless capacity to tolerate and even celebrate the most nonsensical of behaviours from their leaders. For Martians, this is an unparalleled spectacle, one that we will continue to observe with equal parts fascination and disbelief. The only constant in this madness is that we’ll be here, on Mars, trying to make sense of it all.
