The fluttering of rainbow flags can mean only one thing – Pride Month. Celebrated not only across the UK but around the globe, June is a time for honouring LGBTQ+ communities and stories. And as the festivities draw to a close, JustWatch has released an analysis spotlighting the best UK streaming platforms for LGBTQ+ content.

Streaming LGBTQ+ films and shows is easy

JustWatch is the world’s largest streaming guide, used by over 60 million people in 140 countries. By aggregating thousands of movies and TV series across hundreds of platforms – including Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+, and Apple TV – JustWatch helps users easily discover where to stream their favourite content.

Using its extensive database, JustWatch identified nearly 1,100 films and TV shows currently available to stream in the UK that it tagged as LGBT+ content, meaning they feature queer protagonists and narratives.

Analysis of different channels

Through this analysis, JustWatch revealed that Rakuten TV offers the most extensive LGBTQ+ catalogue in the UK, with 21.6% of all identified LGBTQ+ content available on the platform. Prime Video (20.5%) and BFI Player (20.3%) closely followed.

By analysing user interactions – including views, searches, and watchlist saves – JustWatch found that the French psychological legal drama Anatomy of a Fall was the most streamed LGBTQ+ film of the year. The quirky murder mystery-comedy Only Murders in the Building took the top spot for TV shows.

Booksmart and Doctor Who especially

During Pride Month specifically, Booksmart and Doctor Who emerged as the UK’s most popular LGBTQ+ titles, both available to stream on BBC iPlayer. While streaming platforms continue to expand their offerings of diverse and inclusive content, those seeking fresh and emerging voices in queer cinema may want to check out the Scene LGBTQ+ Film Festival, taking place in Manchester from August 15th to 21st.
