The Filo Project, a not‑for‑profit social enterprise providing high‑quality day support for people living with dementia, is recruiting more home-based hosts across Rossendale, Burnley, Colne and Accrington to meet rising local demand.

The Filo Project supports people with early to moderate dementia through small, home‑based groups that offer warmth, routine and meaningful connection. Each group spends the day in the home of a trained, paid host, who also collects and returns clients back home.

A home environment for respite care and friendship

This homely environment and smaller group set-up helps people with dementia feel safe, valued and less isolated, while families benefit from reliable, day‑long respite.

There are an estimated 6,000 people living with dementia in East Lancashire, according to the NHS Integrated Care Board, although many have not yet received a formal diagnosis.

With more families in East Lancashire seeking personalised support, The Filo Project is looking for more hosts who can offer one or two days a week from their own home.

Hosts come from a wide range of backgrounds, including former carers, teachers, nurses, occupational therapists, early retirees and people seeking fulfilling part‑time work that makes a tangible difference in their community.

Training is given, experience not required

Clinical or professional care experience is not required. What matters most is warmth, patience and the ability to create a welcoming environment. Hosts receive full training, ongoing support and are paid employees, not volunteers.

Liz Melvin, who hosted a Filo group in Ramsbottom and now recruits others in Lancashire, said:

Being a Filo Host is incredibly rewarding. You see first-hand the difference it makes to families in East Lancashire offering carers a much‑needed break while creating a real sense of togetherness and friendship within the group you are hosting. It’s a privilege to be part of something that brings so much comfort and connection to people who need it.

Libby Price, Co‑Founder and CEO of The Filo Project, said:

Our hosts create something that no app, device or algorithm ever could – a warm, familiar day where people with dementia feel genuinely seen and included.

If you enjoy the company of older people and want rewarding, flexible work please get in touch.

Who can become a host?

The Filo Project is looking for people who:

  • ·   have a warm, welcoming home suitable for hosting a small group, and with a downstairs toilet; you do not need to own your own home and renters can also host
  • ·   can commit to hosting at least one day a week
  • ·   enjoy spending time with older people
  • ·   want meaningful, well paid work that supports their local community
  • ·   live in or near Rossendale, Burnley, Colne or Accrington
  • ·   have access to a five‑door car to collect and return clients
