London, UK – 13 August 2025 – Actor Christopher Lee-Power, known for his work on stage, television, and film, has issued a strong warning over dangerous overcrowding on London Underground trains after he and his wife endured a frightening and painful experience during a recent visit to the capital.

Buckingham Palace, followed by afternoon tea

Travelling from the Wirral for a long-awaited day out, the couple enjoyed a tour of Buckingham Palace, which Christopher described as “absolutely beautiful, with exquisite architecture, statues, and grounds, followed by a wonderful afternoon tea.” However, their day was marred when they attempted to use the London Underground.

Christopher explained that

We were shocked at the sheer number of people being crammed into the trains. We had to wait for the third train because the first two were so full, passengers were packed in like sardines. When we finally boarded, my arm was caught in the door, causing injury. The severe overcrowding made it impossible to move, and I nearly had a panic attack – I only calmed down through deep breathing.

Overcrowding on the London Underground felt very unsafe

He stressed that:

This is not just an inconvenience for tourists but a safety risk for everyone, particularly families trying to visit London’s landmarks. In my own city of Liverpool, and across the Wirral, our new trains are spacious, clean, and comfortable – nothing like the conditions we experienced in the capital. I appreciate London is the capital of Britain, but this level of overcrowding is not safe.

Drawing on his years of experience in film, television, and theatre, where safety is always prioritised, Christopher said:

On a set, everything is planned to keep people safe. On public transport, you expect that same standard of care. That day, it simply wasn’t there. No one should feel in danger on what is meant to be a simple journey.

Using public transport is more environmentally friendly, but needs to be safe

He added that:

People are often encouraged to leave the car at home, cycle, or use public transport to help the environment. But with the dangerous level of overcrowding on the London Underground, it’s hardly surprising that many think twice. If this continues during rush hours, someone will be seriously hurt. This is a disaster waiting to happen.

Christopher Lee-Power is urging Transport for London to take immediate steps to reduce overcrowding and ensure the safety of all passengers.
