In just five weeks, temperatures and tempers have risen
Words boiled over; rhetoric hit new lows
He lit, then fanned, the flames
Of racism, warmongering, untruths
Heaped disdain and derision upon
The smoldering embers of all we once took for granted
Alliances long held, the notion of justice and liberty for all
While pandering to the worst amongst us
Feeding the fear and the fever
That was brewing in swampland
Layoffs and lecturing
Hardlines and haranguing
Bulls and china shops spring to mind
While we try to find
A modicum of sense
In all the nonsense and the maddening mayhem
But as seasons turn, and tides do too,
So one hot summer will come before the fall
As we watch, we gather, we call
Out to each other
For we know the science of climate change
Is upon us
And as winter beckons
Many snowflakes make a blizzard
And a reckoning awaits
silhouettes of 5 women in different shapes and colours, and above that International Women's Day Bylines Network.

Bridget Jones is Mad About the Boy

Diana Ward

Diana Ward

DM Ward came to writing late in life and is making up for lost time now by putting pen to paper at every available opportunity. Having returned to the UK in 2023 after living in the US for nearly 30 years, I’m just an old broad from the Old Country, born and raised in England – children now grown, recently retired from my fourth ‘career’ and spending as much time as possible on the creative life. What lies within intrigues me, how it manifests excites and bewilders me. We live in such a frenzy of instant information, tied to constant interaction while yearning for simplicity. Utterly connected and disconnected all at the same time. Take time out for art. That way lies sanity, joy, peace of mind. Follow Diana on BlueSky
